{"id":1140,"date":"2009-12-29T15:56:27","date_gmt":"2009-12-29T23:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/?page_id=1140"},"modified":"2009-12-29T16:10:39","modified_gmt":"2009-12-30T00:10:39","slug":"new-mexico-las-cruces-area","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/good-eats\/new-mexico-las-cruces-area\/","title":{"rendered":"New Mexico, Las Cruces Area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Chopes, La Mesa New Mexico<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We read reviews about this place that sounded like a religeous pilgrmage. \u00a0Whe we arrived the first time we walked into the bar thinking it was the cafe. \u00a0We had a beer at the bar with a couple of bikers (Harley) and locals. \u00a0Great Chile Rellenos, chips, salsa&#8230;everything.<\/p>\n<p>The next time we visited was\u00a0just\u00a0after\u00a0Christmas\u00a0on the 26th. \u00a0We arrived early with our friends Tina and Dennis who are self-professed\u00a0Chile Rellenos experts. \u00a0In fact, they trek about the Southwest looking for the best their is and are very opinionated about what is good.<\/p>\n<p>This time we found the cafe just a few yards south of the bar. \u00a0Smaller sign and it looked better than the bar. \u00a0When we arrived, the line was already forming and the people that arrived after us\u00a0squirmed\u00a0to move up in line. \u00a0Sort of like\u00a0rabid\u00a0dogs \u00a0\ud83d\ude42 \u00a0The door\u00a0opened\u00a0late and Wendy began to joke in line that they had run out of Chile Relleno. \u00a0The doors\u00a0opened\u00a0and we were seated.<\/p>\n<p>Chips, salsa and the drinks arrived. \u00a0Then the wait. \u00a0First in last served we thought. \u00a0Wendy again joked that maybe they had already run out. \u00a0The waiter showed up with menus in hand saying they had run out of Rellenos. \u00a0No kidding! \u00a0Wendy said, I will never joke like this again and the look on our face terrified the waiter. \u00a0Could these people be that crazed was the look on his face. \u00a0As we looked at the menu, the owner came by and said not to worry, she would get our Rellenos.<\/p>\n<p>A few minutes later they arrive and again were worth the wait and the moments of terror.<\/p>\n<p>Chopes! \u00a0Definitely good eats, worth the wait and on a Chill Travelers scale for\u00a0ambiance, it was the real-deal for a local canteena. \u00a0Clean and circa early 50&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p><strong>El Comodore, Mesilla New Mexico<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This restaurant is like eating in someones home. \u00a0In fact, it looks like a house just as you travel into Mesilla town proper. \u00a0The atmosphere is authentic and the food\u00a0spectacular. \u00a0This is the real deal Southwestern New Mexican Restaurant. \u00a0We cannot recommend any one dish because everything we have had is perfect. \u00a0Not too hot and deep spice tastes keep us going back over and over. \u00a0Unlike some of the places we go and have the same thing every time, we always order something different here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andele Restaurant, Mesilla New Mexico<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Just a few doors from El Comodore, the food is equally good with more of an upscale canteena environment. \u00a0As the name suggest, the food generally comes out fast. \u00a0In a new location in a shopping center, the old restaurant is now a New Mexican Hot Dog stand. \u00a0Not like Pink&#8217;s in LA, don&#8217;t make the mistake of going in there unless you want the best hot dogs you have tasted.<\/p>\n<p>The New Andele is bigger and faster. \u00a0We think the food is even better. \u00a0Okay, we took our friend Tina and Dennis there. \u00a0you guessed it, they ordered Chile Rellenos. \u00a0The verdict, a little different than Chopes and\u00a0just\u00a0as good! \u00a0I had the fish tacos minus the tortillas and it was wonderful. \u00a0Great for breakfast, lunch and dinner.<\/p>\n<p>[mappress]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Chopes, La Mesa New Mexico We read reviews about this place that sounded like a religeous pilgrmage. \u00a0Whe we arrived the first time we walked into the bar thinking it was the cafe. \u00a0We had a beer at the bar with a couple of bikers (Harley) and locals. \u00a0Great Chile Rellenos, chips, salsa&#8230;everything.
