I will try to keep this as short as possible!<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3438 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3587-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"Sloppy Joe's\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3587-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3587-84x150.jpg 84w, https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3587-768x1365.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3587-576x1024.jpg 576w, https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3587.jpg 918w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/>Just about everyone grew up with a version of Sloppy Joe&#8217;s. \u00a0For those that did not, it is a spaghetti sauce sandwich with a twist.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Wendy and I went to Key West to test our theory of a Keys vs. Caribbean vacation. \u00a0The day before we left Key West to return, we walked by <a href=\"https:\/\/sloppyjoes.com\">Sloppy Joe&#8217;s<\/a> on Duval Street. \u00a0Wendy exclaimed that she had been there numerous times on sales and corporate trips. \u00a0I asked if she had enjoyed the Sloppy Joe sandwich. \u00a0&#8220;Never had one,&#8221; was her answer. \u00a0WHAT?<\/p>\n<p>I drug her in and told her this is the healthiest thing you can get in Key West. \u00a0She ordered a Rum Runner drink and a Joe sandwich. \u00a0Waiting for the sandwich, she said, &#8220;I won&#8217;t eat the bun.&#8221; \u00a0She told the bartender that she would probably only eat half an that I would eat the rest. \u00a0Really?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3441 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3590-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3590\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3590-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3590-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3590-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3590-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.chilltravelers.com\/chill\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_3590.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Okay, the sandwich arrived and it was perfection. \u00a0It was a total time trip back to my youth. \u00a0For Wendy the Rum Runner was gone as was the Sloppy Joe.<\/p>\n<p>Wendy was a convert and I must admit that Sloppy Joe&#8217;s version is almost as good as mine. \u00a0Almost!<\/p>\n<p>So, here is my recipe. \u00a0There is some hoodoo that I intentionally left out, but it will be as good as Sloppy Joe&#8217;s for sure.<\/p>\n<p>Bob<\/p>\n<div class=\"easyrecipe\" data-rating=\"0\">\n<div class=\"item ERName\">Sloppy Joe&#8217;s &#8211; Key West and Beyond<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERClear\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\"><span class=\"xlate\">Recipe Type<\/span>: <span class=\"type\">Sandwich<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Cuisine: <span class=\"cuisine\">Very American<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Author: <span class=\"author\">Bob Root<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Prep time: <time itemprop=\"prepTime\" datetime=\"PT10M\">10 mins<\/time><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Cook time: <time itemprop=\"cookTime\" datetime=\"PT30M\">30 mins<\/time><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Total time: <time itemprop=\"totalTime\" datetime=\"PT40M\">40 mins<\/time><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERHead\">Serves: <span class=\"yield\">2.25 lbs<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ERSummary summary\">Like Chili aka Chile, just about everyone has a recipe. This is mine and it is the best in the world. Really<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERIngredients\">\n<div class=\"ERIngredientsHeader\">Ingredients<\/div>\n<ul class=\"ingredients\">\n<li class=\"ingredient\">2, pounds lean ground sirloin, angus or bison<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1, large sweet onion chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1, red pepper course chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1, yellow pepper course chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">4 to 6 oz, smoked bacon rendered<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">1, 8oz bottle of natural ketchup (real sugar)<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">2 TBS to a can of tomato paste<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">Badia Chipotle Molido to taste and heat<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">powdered garlic powder to taste<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">Sea salt to taste<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">Green peppercorns ground to taste<\/li>\n<li class=\"ingredient\">(Optional recommended) Grains of Paradise ground to taste (lots in mine)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ERInstructions\">\n<div class=\"ERInstructionsHeader\">Instructions<\/div>\n<div class=\"instructions\">\n<ol>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Chop the bacon into \u00bd&#8221; squares. Render the bacon to a cooked and crips state. Do not drain. Add chopped onion and peppers and saut\u00e9 until well cooked or browned. Add ground meat and cook quickly until browed&#8230;barely! Add ketchup and tomato paste. Add garlic powder, salt, pepper, grains of paradise to taste.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Now for the secret. Turn off the heat!!! Let stand for 30 minutes. Warm again to a slight bubble. Turn off heat. Let stand 10 minutes and then warm to serving temperature.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Ladle onto a fresh hamburger bun. Add toppings like raw onion, green onion, yellow mustard.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Serving options: Ladle over a freshly steamed all meat hotdog. Healthier option: ladle into a freshly cooked garnet yam. Unhealthy option: ladle onto a hamburger bun and top with potato sticks, canned onion rings and toppings of choice.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">This is a sacred childhood meal and lest the ghost of Earnest Hemingway haunt you, do not lose the taste of the Sloppy Joe by over adding toppings.<\/li>\n<li class=\"instruction\">Good cold on a bun with red beer for breakfast.
