Their journey is a living embodiment of the adage, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”

Their journey is a testament to the power of resilience, a living embodiment of the adage, “It’s not the destination that matters, but the journey itself.”

Their Journey Has Some Similarities

The Wynns’ journey of traveling the world began in 2011, driven by their insatiable curiosity to explore and discover.  Their mission, as stated on their website, is to “cultivate curiosity” – a philosophy that pushes them outside their comfort zones, challenges their assumptions, and helps them embrace the unknown.

Before embarking on their nomadic lifestyle, Jason was a professional photographer, and Nikki was a makeup artist in Dallas, Texas. They leveraged their skills in commercial and advertising to fund their new mobile lifestyle, recognizing a need for affordable yet high-quality video and photography services in the travel and tourism industry.

Their initial motivation to travel stemmed from a desire to break free from the conventional 9-to-5 routine and embrace a life of adventure and self-discovery. As they immersed themselves in different cultures and experiences, their curiosity only grew stronger, fueling their wanderlust and propelling them to explore more corners of the world.

The Wynns’ journey was not just a physical one but also a personal and spiritual exploration. By letting their curiosity lead the way, they discovered more about themselves and the world around them, constantly evolving and adapting to new challenges and opportunities.

Their website, Gone With The Wynns, which started as a way to share their journey with friends and family, unexpectedly became a source of inspiration for others seeking a similar lifestyle.  As their audience grew, the Wynns doubled down on their efforts, creating engaging content and sharing insights to help others pursue their dreams of travel and exploration.

In essence, the Wynns’ journey began as a leap of faith, driven by a desire to break free from the conventional and embrace the unknown.  Their unwavering curiosity and willingness to step outside their comfort zones have not only shaped their own lives but also inspired countless others to embark on their own adventures.

Learning For Full-Time Aspirations

The Wynns’ approach to travel differs from other full-time travelers in a few key ways:

1. Cultivating Curiosity: Their entire journey is driven by a philosophy of “cultivating curiosity.” Rather than simply checking off destinations, they let their curiosity lead the way, pushing them outside their comfort zones and helping them embrace the unknown. This mindset allows them to have a deeper, more immersive experience in the places they visit.

2. Entrepreneurial Spirit: Unlike many full-time travelers who rely on savings or remote jobs, the Wynns have built a sustainable business around their travels.  They leverage their skills in photography, videography, and content creation to work with tourism boards, adventure companies, and brands, providing high-quality visuals and storytelling services.  This entrepreneurial approach allows them to fund their nomadic lifestyle while doing what they love.

3. Experiential Focus: The Wynns prioritize experiential travel over just sightseeing. They seek out adventures, immerse themselves in local cultures, and strive to create meaningful connections with the people and places they encounter. This approach aligns with their mission of cultivating curiosity and discovering more about themselves and the world around them.

4. Embracing the Unknown: While many travelers meticulously plan every detail, the Wynns embrace the unknown and allow their journey to evolve organically. They remain flexible and open to new opportunities, letting their curiosity guide them to unexpected destinations and experiences.

5. Sharing the Journey: Unlike some full-time travelers who keep their experiences private, the Wynns actively share their journey through their website, Gone With The Wynns. They aim to inspire others to pursue their dreams of travel and exploration, offering insights and advice to help others cultivate their curiosity.

By prioritizing curiosity, embracing the unknown, building a sustainable business around their travels, and sharing their journey with others, the Wynns have carved out a unique approach to full-time travel that sets them apart from many other nomadic adventurers.

A Custom Build

Our first RV was state-of-the-art at the time, but it was just an RV. Designed for snowbirds, it was a point A to point B design. Endeavor was good to us, but we drove the wheel off of it, and it just could not take the strain of business travel. So, one day, we were passed on the highway by an Oakley Motorcoach that was not an RV. It was a semi-based true motorcoach, and it was way cool.  This set us on the path to build our own.  The Grizzly build is chronicled on the site, and it was a superior coach.   So, when we started following Jason & Nikki’s Cat build, we relived the trial, aspirations, and logic.

The Wynns’ HH44 catamaran, named “Curiosity 2”, is a truly innovative and unique vessel that sets it apart from other catamarans in its class. Here are some of the key features that make it so special:

Hybrid Electric Propulsion System

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Wynns’ HH44 is its EcoDrive hybrid electric propulsion system. This parallel hybrid system combines electric motors with traditional diesel engines, allowing for silent, emission-free motoring at speeds up to 7.5 knots powered solely by the electric motors and batteries. The diesel engines act as a backup and can also charge the batteries while underway.

This innovative system reduces the environmental impact and provides instant torque for precise maneuvering. The boat can also regenerate power through hydro-regeneration while sailing, enhancing its eco-friendly credentials.

Designed for Electrification and Solar Power

Unlike many catamarans retrofitted for electrification, the HH44 was designed from the ground up with this technology in mind. The coach roof is optimized to accommodate a massive solar array, providing sustainable energy to power the boat’s systems and charge the batteries.[3]

The helms are moved aft to free up space on the coach roof for the solar panels, while features like folding transoms and opening forward windows enhance airflow and interior comfort, reducing reliance on air conditioning.[3]

High-Performance Sailing Capabilities

Despite its focus on sustainability, the HH44 doesn’t compromise on sailing performance.  It features C-shaped winglets that provide impressive upwind sailing abilities and vertical lift. The sail plan, including a square-top mainsail, solent, staysail, spinnaker, and reacher, offers versatility for various wind conditions.

Luxury and Attention to Detail

The Wynns’ HH44 raises the bar for luxury in a 44-foot catamaran. With headroom exceeding 2 meters in the salon and 1.96 meters in the hulls, plush outdoor cushions, hidden lines, traveler controls, and thoughtful lighting, the boat offers a level of comfort and refinement rarely seen in this size range.

Starlink adds a global connectedness. By prioritizing sustainability through electrification, designing for solar power integration, maintaining high sailing performance, and elevating the luxury experience, the Wynns’ HH44 “Curiosity 2” stands out as a truly unique and innovative catamaran, redefining what’s possible in this class of vessel.[3][4]
